Underground Exchange Rate

The Underground Twilight
Long ago, like maybe 2000 (not two-thousand years ago, but the year 2000), there were these monster hunters known as Smith & Wesson who told their life-story to some no-name Hollywood writer. They expected a big movie starring the biggest stars at the time. Instead they got boned.

The no-name writer changed all the names and locations Smith & Wesson mentioned and went on to turn their life-story into a successful TV series about the supernatural. They tried filing a suit, or at least wanted to, but every lawyer they approached laughed them out of their office.

Unfortunately Smith & Wesson didn't live long enough to see vindication when monsters started invading in great numbers. By the time real monsters became public knowledge the hunters passed away, having been run off the road in their Impala by an angry werewolf.

Point is there is an underground network of monster hunters across the United States known as the Underground Twilight which was founded in 1852 by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson. Horace, known by his friends as "Jack" had been deer hunting when he bumped into "Danny" who was likewise hunting. They joined parties and after about a week they came upon what they thought was a mangy bear. They pursued the bear and eventually captured it. Danny remarked, "That was one big critter." But they soon realized it was no bear. Instead it was a werewolf who cursed them with the words, "I curse you unto the fifth generation."

After Jack and Danny bravely slaughtered the mangy and helpless werewolf they agreed it would be a good idea to develop a network to protect themselves from a werewolf's curse. After a lot of mocking and laughter they persuaded several friends to join them on monster hunts. Most of their hunts were just the boys taking time off for camping and "wrestling" in the woods, but on rare occasions they did indeed hunt more than werewolves.

Today the Underground is struggling to stay relevant, as the government expands its agencies into operations of hunting and exterminating monsters. Many hunters who once worked the Underground networks have gone mainstream for both the money and protection in greater numbers.

The government has not officially gone public. There is currently no known agency relegated which handles such operations. It is strictly a black ops matter. But that may be changing.

Underground Exchange Rate
Monster Hunters can easily find an outpost in Patriot Springs to either exchange heads (or other evidence of a monster kill) for money. They can also take on a bounty case or in some other way find employment. Depending on the outpost and recent activity the exchange rate may vary. Prices will fluctuate and hunters may haggle.
